Can I import a script from PowerPoint, Word or PDF?

Yes. Teleprompter-Scrolling Scripts imports a script from a file on iPhone, iPad and Mac. It reads Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, RTF, HTML, Markdown, plain text (.txt) and subtitle (.srt, .vtt) files. Import from a project or from the script editor, and the text lands in the editor ready to scroll. A PowerPoint deck comes in slide by slide, with each slide's text followed by its speaker notes.

Supported file types

  • Word (.docx) — the document text, with your paragraphs and line breaks.
  • PowerPoint (.pptx) — each visible slide starts with a [Slide N] marker, numbered as in PowerPoint, followed by the text on the slide and then its speaker notes.
  • PDF — the text of the PDF. Use a PDF with selectable text, such as one exported from Word, Pages or Google Docs.
  • RTF, HTML, Markdown and TXT — the text content, ready to read.
  • Subtitles (.srt, .vtt) — the spoken lines as plain text, handy for re-recording a video from its captions.

How to import a file

  1. Open a project, or open the script editor.
  2. Tap or click the Import File button.
  3. Pick the file from Files on iPhone and iPad, or from Finder on Mac.
  4. If the script already has text, choose Replace It or Add to End.
  5. Read through the imported text and tidy any line breaks before you scroll.

Typing and pasting work as well, so text from Notes, an email or a chat tool can go straight into the editor.

Presenting from PowerPoint speaker notes

Import the .pptx and your speaker notes arrive in slide order. The [Slide N] markers show you when to advance the deck, and the on-slide text sits above each slide's notes as a reminder of what the audience sees. Trim the on-slide text if you only want the notes on screen. For the full presenting workflow, see how to use a teleprompter with PowerPoint. On Mac, the floating window can keep those notes on top of a full-screen presentation.

Google Docs, Pages and Keynote

Export a Google Doc as Word (.docx) or PDF, export Pages as Word, and export Keynote as PowerPoint, then import that file. For a short script, copy the text and paste it into the editor.

After you import

Imported text is an ordinary script: edit it, add line breaks where you want to pause, and set the scroll speed in words per minute. To check the length before you record, paste it into the speech time calculator.
